Help plz Defense and guild! Empty Help plz Defense and guild!

So I had these questions from when I first started the game
a month ago but never found answers.

How is Defense related in combat? does it decrease the enemy damage,
and if so how is it calculated? Then would it be more important than
health to have a high defense?

Secondly what is the advantage in using sin monsters for example if your
a sin player? Do you have bonus from using monsters in the same
guild as you?

I'll answer the second one there.

look at your ACHIEVEMENTS tab. under your second one, the "hunter" achievement, it lists your guild bonus. you get .5% bonus when using your own guild-type monster per number listed, from 0-11

It reduced the amount enemy damage. Calculation hasn't been worked out, its nonlinear. When defense is alot higher than attack, attack does next to no damage. More than a straight subtraction. The same is true with really high attack, it penetrates and is hardly reduce at all by defense. Imho, higher defense is worth more than hp as you get more combo bonuses applied to defense and because of the nonlinear relationship, a really high defense makes a far more effective tank than a high hp.

You get a base of 5% + the hunter bonus keyser mention so you get a 5-10.5% bonus to all the stats for using monsters in your own guild compare to someone not in your own with the same monsters. This bonus applies individually so if you have a mix guild formation, the ones in your guild get the bonus, the rest do not. It also applies even when you don't have a full formation or your formation contains duplicate monsters unlike comboes.

o ffs i wish i knew about he guild bonus before going for rancor wyrms as a sin player lol

For what it's worth, rancor wyrms are a perfectly fine team - and much more important than the guild bonus is how leveled-up your agility skill is. You can dominate practically any A+ team if you have higher agility and attack first - and the teams that beat you probably would if you had built a sin team anyway.

You can always max out the team, then trade it for a sin team of equal value.

Point is - it's not going to hurt you going rancor wyrms (plus, you'll won't have to worry about guild-down skills as much since you are a sin player with a rancor team, and you won't have to worry about species-down skills since there currently is no wyrm-down skill in the game).

U could always build a hybrid sin/covert wyrm team since u dont receive guild bonus from covert team anyways.. me personally i run lindwurm, sky, mld, nwd, and kanna. Maxed this team should give higher atk than the best covert wyrm team for sin guild

ok thats cool lol except im trying to avoid mld and nwd and magma
since they cost a ton and just go quetz sky lind jupiter and vritra

and i thot guild doen skills target monsters of the guild
in your formation and not the player? so if i had two rancor
3 sin formation and someone had imp down all my monsters would
get affected?

thr bonus only applies.to your guild?

guild down targets monsters of the guild, not player's guild. for example, a sin player running a covert beast team would be affected by covert down but not by impulse down. also, a player running a hybrid wyrm team, 3x impulse, 2x covert would suffer more from impulse down than from covert down as impulse would affect 3 monsters while covert would affect only 2.

as far as the community has determined, the hunter bonus applies to each monster in your formation that matches your guild, individually.
