When to start events? ..

Currently own about 40 potions, all the 'My' type. How many are needed to have any chance of placing in an event? And what level char is needed, (e.g. what max energy?) Thanks.

I'm lv 60, have 310 max energy, 35 my EPs and plan to try and not use any until I get closer to 100. I'll wait till they have some really good achieveable rewards, like great SOE, that I'd be able to sell and recoup some of my losses; that way I won't be totally disappointed when I still don't place! I would be interested to know what rankings others have accomplished by this tactic.
