Carbuncle!?

Can someone tell me what the deal is with Carbuncle? Why are people always posting that they're looking for a carbuncle?

I thinks it's something about mutation,but don't know much about the details,so maybe someone knows?

I just saw someone claiming they turn into AAs on Dec 16. Sounds like a crock to me...

The legend of Carbuncle says: Carbuncle will randomly scurry through peoples profiles. if you are lucky enough to catch him at a plus level he will grant you the Awesome Power of Crystal Forehead.

Did the Mayans predict this as well?

Grat Scott , i tried some mutation and found that:

Carbuncle and Leprechaun gives = Elven Heroine+ (B+ monster with agility)

Can somebody try this to confirm

I just finish doing some testing... Out of eleven tries

2 times out of 11 = Carbuncle and Leprechaun evolved to B+ (Agility)

I also tried Carbuncle with other 5 random C monsters and nothing happened

Yeah, I tried something similar. Sacced 20 random C monsters one at a time to a Carbuncle.

All I got was a higher level Carbuncle .

Interesting that Carbuncle + Leprechaun gave agility a couple times for you. I might test that out later.. even at low % it could still be worth it.

As of right now if you sacrifice one carbuncle to another, it will mutate every time. I've done it twice, worked both times, although I got garbage B's both times.

People are auctioning them for ridiculous prices, it's not worth it in my opinion. It seems to just be a normal mutation, I doubt you'll get a skill change monster out of it, maybe someone got super lucky and got one, but I doubt the odds are high.

I've just sacrificed 16 Carbuncles, each to one another for a total of 8 sacs and ended up with 8 level 2 Carbuncles, then 4 level 3 Carbuncles....

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the previous poster was sac'ing the carbuncle into the C monster, not vice versa.

I think C monsters evolving happen at random since i've tried different combinations without success.

Could be. To test it out I tried the other way with a couple carbuncles. One I sacced into a slime, the other into a devil rabbit. No mutation for either sadly.

Looks like the carbuncle thing is just a hoax.

I wasn't lying, it worked twice for me yesterday, tried it again just now though and it didn't. *shrug*

I've been getting a ton of Carbys from the dragon wall...I'll experiment a bit and post results, if any. On a side note... I heard some guy saying that once this event ends, if you have a carbuncle in your deck, you get a new AA. I'm sure that's a load of crap, but...

it probably is. still won't hurt to try it, see what happens. we can always sell them for gold/sacrifice them later, lol.

1st try sacrificing Carbuncle to power up Lepracaun nets a mutation of Arachne w/ Slumbering Breath skill...Crappy skill but I now can say I have mutated a creature.

I found an auction stating "These guys have a possibility to mutate into skill spirits"

Found another claiming that sacrificing a Carbuncle to a Platinum Golem will mutate the GOlem into an AA of your guild color.

Shakes, simple rule of thumb: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Those two auctions are more than likely scams, lol.

Agreed. I've had my mind made up about that for a few days now. I'm just offering information to people who haven't made their minds up yet. There are too many different versions of the Carbuncle story for any of them to be true.

Is Leprechaun called Leprechaun or is it a creature of a different name that looks like a Leprechaun? I dont remember seeing a Leprechaun.

lol i told a guy the carbuncle thing was a scam, he still wanted some to try it out, i ended up selling him 5 for 1 ep

i had heard originally carbuncle was the only 10 BP C rank monster around, so they were more valuable for sacrificing. I think that's changed, though...

I've never seen anything about a 100% mutation rate, but I believe the posts about it mutating to produce a skill... although, according to the DS Wiki, there are other mutations that yield Agility Up monsters. These other mutations also seem to come from sac monsters that are probably easier to obtain (from regular missions) than carbuncles (usually only found during events)
